I earned my undergraduate degree in English with a minor in communications from Fordham University. After graduation I went on to become a teaching assistant via Blue Engine, an AmeriCorps affiliated service. Prior to this posting I had the opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant, middle school mentor, and tutor for various academic programs. It was as a student in one of these after school programs that my love of learning and teaching first began and it is a delight to be able to give that same gift of learning to other students. I currently tutor a variety of subjects, including reading, writing, essay editing, phonics, literature, English grammar and syntax, American history, English, social studies, and comparative literature. Depending on the needs of the student, I may also work with them on improving their study and organizational skills or in preparing for a test. My primary focus as a tutor is on my student's reading and writing skills. These are fundamentally linked with their ability to succeed in all of their classes and I believe all students have the capability to excel in these areas. However, before designing a learning plan I know it is critical to first get to know the student and their individual learning style, needs, and goals to ensure they are receiving the best session possible.
