I am an English Honors Major with a concentration in Creative Writing at Herbert H. Lehman College. I also have a minor in Middle and High School Education. I have a major GPA of 3.6 , a minor GPA of 4.0 and an overall GPA of 3.4. I will be graduating in May of 2016.
Experience
As an aspiring English teacher and educational policy maker I believe that the key to literacy in all subjects begins with English. I am also aware that not all students learn the same therefore I believe in shaping my lessons around the student's strengths and weaknesses. I am currently a reading and writing tutor at Lehman College's Academic Center for Excellence. I have also privately tutored elementary school children, one of which had ADHD. Working with him was an amazing experience because I developed teaching methods that would assist me in making literacy interesting and interactive for ADHD students. I have worked with a wide spectrum of students who have learning differences such as dyslexia and autism. I turn no students away because no matter what the challenge I am willing to work towards the success of the student. At Lehman, I have taken a course entitled Teaching English and it has provided me with the necessary tools to teach English to middle and high school students. I have also taken a wide range of English courses such as Fiction Writing, American Literature, British Literature, and Advanced Poetry just to name a few. Most excitingly, I recently just wrote a fifty page thesis on the effects of writing on depression. It involved extensive research and a strict writing schedule but in the end it was a success.
