Experience
I graduated from Arizona State University with a PhD in history. I have spent time teaching at a variety of institutions. I taught Western civilization and American history at Scottsdale Community College, Arizona State University, and the Chandler-Gilbert Community College. I have experience teaching Native American history, American Southwest history, and American Indian studies. As a private tutor, I worked with students on ESL/ELL, essay writing, reading comprehension, and high school geography, among other subjects. My tutoring style combines informative technology, assignments, and projects to make each session effective. By interweaving these, I encourage students to become familiar with technology while building their academic skills for optimal success. I work hard to show students how history is a relevant subject with a heavy focus on current events and cause and effect. I encourage students to make a personal connection, emphasizing the impact an event has on people. I strive to help students improve their writing and critical thinking skills. I believe that education is meant to enrich our lives just as much as it prepares us for careers. When I'm not teaching, I often go hiking or traveling. I also enjoy reading and writing.
