Experience
I have a passion to help college and high school students to become critical thinkers and succinct writers. I possess over 20 years of proven success helping students with various study/organizational skills issues and processing problems. I find today that students have a difficult time summarizing information; recognizing and separating fact from opinion and have an even harder time a when it comes to general paper writing and exposition. I work with students on critical reading skills, editing of ideas and paper construction. I often find that students don't know how to think through a problem and then illustrate this process using the written word. I work one-one in various subject areas for weekly high school and college tutoring. I also have experience with college age and high school students (one which is my own son with sever dyslexia) struggling with a variety of special needs issues. I have taken a wide variety of courses in the social sciences, literature, art and government: archeology; anthropology; sociology; art history; modern art history; South Asian Art; Ottoman studies; historical sociology European, World, South Asian, Middle Eastern, South American and North American history. I have a special place for ethnic studies--history of the Jewish people; Mongolian history and social history/working class history. I passed AP exams in European and American history and have a specialty in Roman history; medieval and early modern European history and thought. I also have spent years in political economy, political science, world government and civics.

Avid reader of historical fiction British and medieval and non fiction with an emphasis on South Asia, Russia, Eastern European, colonial, East Africa modern terrorism, political movements and the Soviet Union. I am an avid long-distance runner; I love ethnic/gourmet food. I have two teenage sons one with sever dyslexia and the other who is learning how to be a good writer and editor of his words and ideas. I am very involved with human rights issues and contemporary civil rights. I am a social worker who advocates for needy and disadvantaged clients. I have flexibility evening and weekends and I will provide sliding scale based on need.
