I like to think of teaching as an offshore fishing trip. I like this comparison because there are a lot of initial preparations in both and you enter into both with the idea of the trip being long. However, there is nothing quite like the moment when all the hard work is realized and the payoff is in hand. I build my lessons around positive reinforcement and strive to provide my students the feeling of accomplishment they deserve. I believe that students have a right to know the moment when they have mastered a skill, and I supply the praise needed to encourage students when they are attempting to learn new concepts. I do not believe that there is a right or a wrong answer when looking for solutions with my students, but simply steps to follow when learning new material. I work to bring interest and wonderment into the lessons to encourage the students to engage in the material. I provide a structured and light-hearted learning environment for students to work in, and believe that the atmosphere I create is like a safety blanket for their learning. In my free time, I enjoy aquariums, boating, cooking, fishing, gardening, hiking, hydroponics, rock climbing, running, skiing, and watersports.
