Experience
I attended Stony Brook University and have been tutoring students for more than five years. Making my students more independent is my goal. I try to accomplish this by first identifying their ability with basic operations. I then help them through repetition, as this is the key to academic success. I will continuously go over a problem until it is clearly understood and the student no longer needs any help with it.After all of that, I will request that the student do a problem with me. This allows him or her to participate in what is being discussed. It also allows him or her to build their comprehension of the subject as well as their confidence level. I then make sure that they have problems to practice independently. As they grow in their skill, I will move towards more difficult problems. I also make my students explain the problems to me, as if they are teaching me how it works. I want to see that they can do this with confidence. Some of the other subjects that I am well-versed in include elementary and middle school math, geometry, algebra 1, algebra 2, anatomy, chemistry, biology, SSAT, SAT math, arithmetic, regents, TACHS, science, test prep, ISEE, and trigonometry. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading comic books, cooking, exercising, and reading science articles.
