Alyssa A.
Private tutor in Yonkers, NY
Education
Currently in my third year at Lehman College, an extension of CUNY, I'm majoring in African American Studies and minoring in Political Science. Maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.79, I expect to graduate in 2010 with my Bachelors Degree. In rapid succession, I plan to apply to Columbia University's Law School to become a lawyer specializing in immigration and civil rights issues.
Experience
Passing on knowledge has always been a passion of mine, and one that is avidly expressed through my work experience. Tutoring for the non profit BELL foundation, I mentored students in grades 2-6 during my sophomore year in college. Throughout my junior year, I tutor college students in the SEEK program in a vast range of subjects. Also a Supplemental Instructor, I coach students on proper note taking techniques. I've taken the English AP in high school and scored a 4 out of 5, a 750 on the reading portion of the SAT, and a "pass with distinction" on the CPE, an exam administered to all of the student body in CUNY. I enjoy tutoring because I enjoy sharing information. Knowledge is the key to the door of the future, and I can help one on his/her quest to obtain that key. The courses that I've excelled in (all "A" grades) are as follows: History 250, English Composition 110 and 120, English Literature, Minority English Lit, African American Lit., Afro-Caribbean Studies, Abnormal Psychology, Intro. to Psychology, Intro. to Political Science, Democracy and Its Critics and much, much more!
